The unsung heroes of the game: Cleaning and maintaining football’s most iconic grounds

6th May 2025

From the crowd’s roar at the City Ground and Pride Park Stadium to the elite training sessions at their respective training academies or St. George’s Park, football is as much about what happens behind the scenes as it is on the pitch.

At the heart of it all is the StadiaCare commercial cleaning team, who work tirelessly to ensure that every seat, corporate area, changing room and concourse is kept in immaculate condition.

Keeping a stadium matchday-ready

When the last chant fades and the crowd heads home, our cleaning teams swing into action. Every stand is swept, every concourse scrubbed and every toilet sanitised – all on a tight turnaround before the next event.

“It’s not just about tidying up,” says our Managing Director Martin Booth: “We work to exacting standards to ensure that every supporter, guest, staff member and player walks into a clean, safe environment.”

“Whether it’s preparing executive suites for matchday hospitality or deep cleaning changing rooms midweek, consistency is key,” added Martin.

It’s not just the Stadiums either; training grounds also receive daily attention, with player welfare front and centre. From sanitising gym equipment to maintaining medical rooms, the focus is on cleanliness and hygiene at every level.

Elite standards at St. George’s Park

St. George’s Park in Staffordshire is the crown jewel of English football development. As the home of the FA and training base for England’s national teams, it welcomes elite athletes, coaches and visitors from around the world.

Jason Charlesworth, StadiaCare Operations Director, commented: “Maintaining a facility like St. George’s Park requires a specialised approach.”

“It’s not just about cleaning – it’s about creating a world-class environment worthy of the Three Lions.”

“Here, high-traffic areas like changing rooms, rehab centres and meeting rooms are cleaned with a focus on hygiene, presentation and discretion. The stakes are high, and expectations even higher,” said Jason.

At StadiaCare and OfficeCare we’re proud to support the teams behind the teams – working quietly in the background to ensure that every surface shines, every space is safe, and every footballing experience begins in a clean environment.
