The national living wage in the UK increased to £8.21 per hour in April 2019 for workers aged 25 and over. As this subsequently had an impact on ourselves and other cleaning companies, we decided to analyse what this means to businesses and their clients.
Firstly, receiving a higher wage automatically means a happier workforce, with cleaning staff feeling motivated in being rewarded with a higher wage and, in turn, are likely to be more loyal to their employer. The result, cleaners work harder, doing a better job.
Secondly, as a direct result of the wage increase, better quality cleaners will apply for cleaning jobs. Partially because the hours are often more suited to their personal and family lives, again making them feel more positive.
Finally, advances in technology mean that cleaning companies can accurately monitor the hours of their staff and the quality of their work. So any underperformance is quickly exposed and dealt with.
At StadiaCare, our highly-trained staff provides quality, dedicated cleaning, to meet our clients’ individual expectations. We have invested massively in technology to help increase efficiency, evaluate performance and improve our standards, including the introduction of a ‘Workforce Monitoring System’ to ensure our clients receive genuine value for money.
With over 30 years of experience in commercial cleaning, spanning the East Midlands and South Yorkshire, we are positive that the introduction of the national living wage will help StadiaCare raise its own standards and productivity.
